Position: Team Manager - Overleaf Operations

What you’ll be doing
Our backend stack includes Node.js, Express, MongoDB, Redis, hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with a frontend stack using React and TypeScript. We deploy 2-6 times daily with continuous integration and automation. This is a management role with technical hands-on responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Line managing two senior Overleaf DevOps engineers, overseeing career development and performance management.
- Managing the delivery of the Overleaf Operations roadmap with the Overleaf Platform team.
- Implementing best practices for observability, monitoring, and reliability.
- Educating engineering teams on best practices and assisting the Operations team with DevOps and maintenance tasks.
- Overseeing GCP resource usage to optimize costs.
- Designing and developing run-books and transferring knowledge to engineers for on-call responsibilities.
Role Potential for Growth:
This role has the potential for progression into a wider role within the Digital Science Infrastructure and Operations team, including:
- Driving adoption of consistent standards across the Digital Science Technology organization.
- Evangelizing DevOps principles and managing other DevOps engineers.
On-Call Rotation:
After the probation period, you will participate in the compensated on-call rotation. We have two engineers on-call at all times, handling production incidents as needed.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- In-depth knowledge of cloud computing environments, especially Google Cloud.
- Proven ability to implement alerting, monitoring, and observability on high-load applications.
- Experience in handling production incidents and decision-making based on operational and technical trade-offs.
- Experience in managing engineers or serving as a technical lead.
- Security-first mindset regarding confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
Bonus Experience:
- Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, or Prometheus.
- Experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or Redis.
Required Skills:
- Fluent written and verbal communication in English.
- Available during core hours (14:00 to 17:00 UK time) for occasional meetings.

ما ستجلبه للدور:
- معرفة متعمقة ببيئات الحوسبة السحابية، خاصة Google Cloud.
- سجل حافل في تنفيذ التنبيهات، والمراقبة، والرؤية الواضحة للتطبيقات ذات التحميل العالي.
- خبرة في التعامل مع حوادث الإنتاج واتخاذ قرارات بناءً على التوازن بين العمليات والتقنيات.
- خبرة في إدارة المهندسين أو العمل كقائد تقني.
- عقلية أولوية الأمان فيما يتعلق بالسرية والسلامة والتوافر.
