Summary

MFLC Counselors provide assessment, short-term, solution-focused counseling services, and proactive outreach to eligible individuals, military children, and youth of all ages. They collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to strengthen children’s and youth’s capacity for healthy development, while enhancing resilience in the unique context of military life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide support for children across early childhood settings and schools, as well as for staff and parents.

• Deliver non-medical counseling, consulting, and outreach services.

• Apply preventative models to reduce the stresses of military life.

• Teach coping, emotion management, and problem-solving strategies to families and caregivers.

• Facilitate psychological and behavioral awareness, providing education on symptoms, causes, and impacts.

• Deliver services across classrooms, families, schools, and communities, with sensitivity to cultural contexts.

• Assist educators in supporting social-emotional development.

• Conduct accurate assessments and develop effective treatment plans.

• Present government-approved training sessions.

Required Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship and fluent English.

• Master’s degree or higher in social work, psychology, marriage/family therapy, or counseling.

• Valid independent license in the U.S. (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, LMHC, or Psychologist).

• Ability to pass federal background checks (Public Trust clearance).

• Experience in short-term counseling for life and military-related stress.

• Knowledge of clinical documentation standards and referral resources.

• Ability to work with diverse backgrounds.

• Proficiency in oral and written communication and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification or training as an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant.

Military and Family Life Counselor

Required Qualifications

• Be U.S. citizens and speak fluent English

• Possess a Master's degree or higher from an accredited graduate program in a relevant behavioral health field of study, including but not limited to social work, psychology, marriage/family therapy, or counseling

• Hold a valid independent license in the mental health field from any U.S. state or territory (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, LMHC, Psychologist). Provisional licensure may be acceptable for specific positions and locations

• Ability to pass a basic employment background check, a Child National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI/CNACI) clearance, also known as Public Trust clearance

• Ability to pass all background/suitability checks, including installation-specific requirements

• Knowledge of general life stress adjustment challenges as well as those related to military life, with experience in providing short-term counseling for such issues

• Familiarity with military and community referral resources

• Knowledge of standard documentation requirements for clinical services

• Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general office software

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior military service or being a military family member, with strong familiarity with military culture and command structures

• Experience in developing productive relationships with high-ranking military personnel is preferred

• Prior service as an MFLC counselor is strongly preferred

VA Benefits Advisor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide onsite support at military installations (both CONUS and OCONUS)

• Conduct VA Benefits and Services briefings

• Deliver established training curriculum, ensuring course content and delivery methods follow training objectives

• Perform one-on-one engagements with service members

• Support pre-separation counseling

• Provide support at Reserve, National Guard, and Military Life Cycle (MLC) events

• Establish and maintain a network with other resource experts

• Handle sensitive and personally identifiable information

• Provide daily reporting on events and interactions

• Adhere to VA policies and professional conduct standards

Supervisory Responsibilities

• This position does not have supervisory responsibilities

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree OR a combination of education and relevant experience OR four years of relevant work/military experience

• Experience making presentations and facilitating training for large and small groups

• Knowledge of adult education principles and training curriculum development based on the adult learning model

• Knowledge of the military and challenges faced by transitioning service members

• Proficiency in office automation equipment and software

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with excellent oral and written communication skills

• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
