Legal Counsel – Pitcairn Islands Development Project

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to establish and oversee the legal framework for all development activities on the Pitcairn Islands. This role ensures full compliance with UK, Commonwealth, and local laws, manages legal risks, and provides expert legal guidance to the project team and senior management.
Key Responsibilities:

Ensure all island operations comply with UK, Commonwealth, and local laws and regulations.

Provide timely and practical legal advice on all project matters.

Identify and mitigate legal risks.
-
Draft, review, and revise legal documents, contracts, policies, and procedures.

Manage legal disputes and regulatory inquiries.
-
Act as main legal contact for government authorities and regulatory bodies.

Prepare legal compliance reports for senior management.
Key Requirements:

Qualified UK solicitor or barrister with a valid practising certificate.

Legal eligibility to work in the UK and British territories.

Minimum 5 years post-qualification legal experience, preferably in charity, international development, infrastructure, or public sector projects.

Strong knowledge of UK and Commonwealth legal frameworks.

Experience advising on UK/Commonwealth laws is essential.
