About the Job
The Optimism Foundation is looking for a Head of Security to take ownership of the Security landscape for the Optimism Collective. The ideal candidate will be data-start="228" data-end="245">crypto-native and responsible for supervising all security matters across our Collective. Above all else, they will appreciate and be excited by the depth of security challenges at Optimism.
This Role Is Unique in the Following Ways
- Decentralized Governance: Our governance system is responsible for approving upgrades that affect OP Chains across the Superchain ecosystem. The Head of Security will work alongside our governance team to build processes and code to ensure:
- Governance outcomes are credible, reliable, and lead to secure upgrades in production.
- Superchain security offerings are reliable and accessible to all customers. This includes features like the Superchain Defense Fund, a shared pool of funding to secure proof challenges across the Superchain, or Emergency Pause procedures to respond to incidents with the shared Superchain bridge.
- Core Dev Accountability and Empowerment:
- Optimism is not just one company—it is a Collective of teams and contributors.
- The Head of Security will build their own team and work across multiple companies to coordinate talent and resources towards building, securing, and maintaining a production system managing billions in assets.
- Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring that individual practices of each core developer conform to Optimism’s world-class security standards.
- Ensuring every feature merged into production meets Optimism’s safe code requirements.
- Empowering Optimism Governance functions, such as the Developer Advisory Board or Security Council, to make transparent assessments of protocol upgrades and security practices.
What Are the Role Responsibilities?
- Strategy: Oversee the security of the Optimism Collective and the entire Superchain, securing billions in assets.
- Leadership: Build a security culture through in-depth risk modeling, audits, and best-in-class practices.
- Shift Left Practices: Ensure secure code deployment using shift-left practices to detect threats and potential issues early.
- Detection & Response: Develop threat detection and incident response capabilities while staying updated on emerging blockchain threats.
- Secure Decentralized Development:
- Implement security frameworks that help external, open-source contributors ship secure code.
- Work with engineering and security teams across the Collective to apply policies and resolve security challenges.
- Hold teams accountable for producing secure code.
- Crypto Audit Expertise:
- Develop audit policies for teams contributing code to the Collective.
- Work with top crypto audit firms or internal audit teams to ensure the security of our systems, smart contracts, and infrastructure.
- The Collective: Build security protocols that support our governance model, open-source collaborators, and proactive security forecasting for new chain deployments.
- Management: Scale impact by growing and managing a high-performing Security team at the Foundation.
What Skills Do You Bring?
- Proven security leadership experience, preferably in the blockchain or cryptocurrency industry.
- Deep expertise in security audits, risk management, and blockchain security practices, ideally with billions of dollars at stake.
- Strong knowledge of the crypto security audit landscape and relevant security tools.
- Expertise in protocol design, smart contract security, and formal verification techniques.
- Familiarity with Ethereum, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), and Layer 2 scaling solutions.
- Ability to own cross-functional projects from ideation to launch, collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for a diverse audience.

Brand Design Lead
About the Job
The Lead Brand Designer will shape Optimism’s visual identity, ensuring our brand and product stories are communicated clearly and compellingly. This role blends leadership with
hands-on design work, driving high-impact marketing campaigns, evolving our brand library, and developing scalable design systems.As a key creative partner to the Chief Growth Officer, you’ll collaborate cross-functionally to craft landing pages, campaign assets, and design kits that enhance engagement. You’ll manage contractors and FTE designers, providing both strategic direction and hands-on execution.
Thriving in ambiguity, you’ll move quickly, take candid feedback well, and work autonomously while maintaining brand integrity. This is a unique opportunity to define the visual language of a leading blockchain ecosystem and help scale Optimism’s presence in Web3.
