About the Job
Overview
Shore Network Engineer SR provides support for the various systems located at the U.S. Navy’s Network Operations Centers (NOCs). Support includes administration and maintenance of systems, use and development of standard operating procedures, coordination of troubleshooting efforts to resolve issues on supported units across multiple circuits, systems, and facilities. The candidate will provide training to on-site Navy personnel and assist those personnel in resolving ship-to-shore, shore-to-ship, and NOC-to-NOC networking issues. Clearance requirement: Secret, TS or TS/SCI depending on location.
Responsibilities
- Network Support: Responsible for supporting Navy NOCs. Conduct on-site troubleshooting and maintenance assistance for issues that cross multiple systems.
- Training: Provide training on new systems and work processes for Fleet NOC personnel.
- C4I Systems: Coordinate the repair of installed C4I systems including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, and other network security devices.
- Fleet Support: Support shore-based facilities to ensure their full operational status to meet the requirements of fleet units/ships permanently or temporarily assigned to the AOR. Support fleet units/ships to ensure connectivity to Naval networks.
- Outage Restoration: Provide support for NOC restoration in case of outages and rapid response for emergent issues.
- VOIP Support: Provide local and distance support of VOIP/VOSIP phones and manage/configure CISCO Unified Call Manager (CUCM) suite of equipment.
- System Integration: Provide on-site engineering and technical support for the integration of IT hardware and software upgrades.
- Configuration Management: Support the maintenance of the system architecture configuration and manage configuration to meet site program objectives; provide activity-based technical and engineering support for process configuration.
- Network Testing: Assist in conducting preliminary network testing after integration and configuration of site upgrades and modifications.
- Information Assurance (IA): Support Information Assurance, including adherence to IA policies, operations of IA related systems (HBSS/ACAS, IDS, Antivirus, firewalls).
- Customer Interaction: Interact with multiple customer organizations as required.
Travel: Less than 5% travel may be required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification:
- BS in Information Technology (or equivalent technical degree) or 8+ years technical experience in related disciplines.
- 6+ years of experience with DoD enterprise or Navy networks. Fleet NOC experience highly desired.
- 6+ years of experience in troubleshooting networks and operating system issues across multiple systems.
Preferred Certifications:
- IAT2 certifications required for both OS and IA (Security+ CE or equivalent required).
- CCNA or equivalent applicable network OS (Juniper, etc.) required.
- Certification as CISSP or equivalent for IA (IAT3 per DoD Inst 8570.1) may be required and candidate must be able to obtain within 6 months of direction.
- Windows Server and VMWare training/certifications highly desired. Higher level CISCO certifications highly desired.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Ability to troubleshoot across multiple systems, including those off-site, and work with other SMEs to determine the cause and actions to take for restoration.
- Ability to work with/train local military personnel to assist in the resolution of problems.
- Ability to provide OJT to technical personnel and modify technical documentation, including BoMs, SOVTs, BESEP inputs, and other system engineering documentation.
- Ability to create or support the creation of technical presentations under the direction of Navy or government officials.
Clearance:
- Depending on location, Top Secret/SCI Clearance may be required.
