 Senior Software Engineer, API Gateway - Europe (Remote)

About The Role

Kong is an Open-Core project, built on the Open-source API Gateway. Our Enterprise Gateway extends and enhances this foundation, becoming the central piece of the Kong ecosystem. This ecosystem includes additional software and infrastructure that brings even more value to our users. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will focus on developing, maintaining, and extending both the Open-source and Enterprise versions of the Kong Gateway. You will collaborate with the Open Source community and work closely with internal teams to drive improvements and contribute to cutting-edge industry trends.

What You'll Be Doing

• Work with the Product management team to identify and implement enhancements.
• Propose and implement POCs and prototypes for networking software in Rust.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to design, architect, and understand new features.
• Perform bug fixing, performance tuning, and low-level optimizations.
• Engage with the open source community.
• Provide support and assistance to the support and escalation teams.
• Mentor and pair with other team members.
• Take on any additional tasks required by the manager.

What You'll Bring

• Comfort working in a remote, distributed team with minimal supervision.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both for collaboration and documentation.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Linux systems troubleshooting and profiling.
• Experience programming low-level networking systems (Nginx and/or OpenResty preferred, Apache is also valid).
• Familiarity with IdP/AuthZ systems, monitoring and profiling systems, and network traffic inspection.
• Optional but highly preferred: At least 2 years of experience working with Rust.

What you'll be doing::

•  Accountability for the services utilization and revenue targets while holding self and Kong to a high standard of customer experience
• Lead an organization responsible for deliberate and material influencing of customer adoption and consumption of services
• Establish and maintain a culture of mutual accountability between Professional Services and customers

• Partner with other field EMEA teams (Partner, Sales, Customer Success, Support, Pre-Sales) for continuous improvement of our customer engagement methodologies

Sr. Staff Event Gateway Product Manager

What You’ll Do

•  Define and Drive Product Vision: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, and field teams, to establish and execute a clear vision for Kong’s Event Gateway, ensuring alignment with customer needs and long-term production plans.
• Lead Execution: Partner with engineering and design leaders to scope, define, and deliver capabilities for the product’s releases that bring customer value and support the promotion of Kong Event Gateway as a major feature. 
• Customer-Focused Planning: Develop a deep understanding of customer needs and use cases, supported by solid data and evidence. Translate this understanding into artifacts outlining target use cases, milestone plans, and timelines to guide the product roadmap.

• Ensure Cross-Functional Alignment: Work closely with engineering, design, and marketing teams to align on use case execution, milestone delivery, and launch plans. Foster collaboration and ensure clarity in planning and execution across all relevant stakeholders.
• Develop Roadmaps and Plans: Create and maintain a comprehensive external-facing roadmap and related materials that clearly communicate the product direction and milestones. Collaborate with Product Marketing Management (PMM) to develop and execute a clear launch plan, ensuring all deliverables are approved and on track.

• Champion Communication and Transparency: Serve as the central point of communication, keeping internal and external stakeholders informed on progress, milestones, and expectations. Build strong relationships with field teams to ensure project updates and outcomes are effectively communicated.

 What You’ll Bring

•  Experience: 6+ years in product management, working with technical products and end-users.
• Deep understanding of customer needs, onboarding, and product adoption.
• Strong grasp of API and Kafka eventing space, with strategic insights shaped by customer, field, and engineering feedback.
• Proficient in writing requirements, collaborating with engineers, and communicating technical concepts (Kafka, event-driven architectures).
• Effectively engaging with stakeholders, identifying core pain points, and articulating a clear product vision.
