 About the Job

Overview
The Shore Network Engineer SR will play a critical role in providing support for various systems located at the U.S. Navy’s Network Operations Centers (NOCs). This support encompasses system administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordination efforts to address issues across multiple circuits, systems, and facilities. The engineer will train on-site Navy personnel and assist in resolving ship-to-shore, shore-to-ship, and NOC-to-NOC networking issues. A security clearance, which could range from Secret to TS/SCI, is required, depending on the location.

Responsibilities
As the Shore Network Engineer SR, your primary responsibilities will include:

• Network Operations Center (NOC) Support: Provide comprehensive support for Navy NOCs, conducting troubleshooting and maintenance across multiple systems, identifying root causes, and coordinating repair efforts.

• Training & Process Development: Conduct training for Fleet NOC personnel on new systems, processes, and troubleshooting techniques. Assist in building technical proficiency within the team.

• C4I System Support: Maintain and repair C4I systems including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, and other network security devices. Ensure seamless operation of these systems in shore-based facilities and fleet units/ships.

• Connectivity & Outage Support: Troubleshoot connectivity issues to ensure fleet units/ships are operational and maintain access to Naval networks. Provide rapid response during outages to restore service.

• VOIP/VOSIP Management: Offer support for VOIP/VOSIP phone systems and manage the CISCO Unified Call Manager (CUCM) suite of equipment.

• System Integration: Provide on-site engineering support for the integration of IT hardware and software upgrades, ensuring system architecture and configuration management align with program objectives.

• Information Assurance (IA): Adhere to IA policies, manage IA systems such as HBSS/ACAS, IDS, Antivirus, and firewalls, and ensure the integrity and security of the network.

• Client Interaction: Engage with various customer organizations, providing expert support and recommendations for networking strategies, alternative actions, and system improvements.

• Preliminary Testing & Reporting: Assist with network testing after upgrades and modifications, offering insights on performance and potential improvements.

• Travel: Less than 5% travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Information Technology or an equivalent technical degree, or at least 8+ years of technical experience in a related discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience working with DoD enterprise or Navy networks, particularly in Fleet NOC operations, is highly preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience in troubleshooting network and operating system issues across multiple systems.

• Certifications:

  • IAT2 certifications required for both OS and IA, such as Security+ CE or equivalent.
  • CCNA or equivalent applicable network OS certification (Juniper, etc.) required.
  • Certification as CISSP or equivalent for IA may be required, with the candidate needing to obtain it within 6 months of direction.
  • Windows Server and VMWare training/certifications are highly desired.
  • Higher-level CISCO certifications are preferred.

• Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting across multiple systems, both on-site and remotely.
  • Ability to train and mentor technical personnel and modify documentation, including BoMs, SOVTs, and BESEP inputs.
  • Competency in creating technical presentations and reports for Navy or government officials.

• Clearance:

  Depending on location, Top Secret/SCI clearance may be required.
