Job Purpose:
- The LP SME shall ensure that the model simulates Bapco refinery operations in an accurate manner. The LP SME shall update the existing model to capture any required changes in the operations, including modifications to stream routings, process units’ yields, development of new structure in the sub-models, modification of assays, etc.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provides support and guidance on best practices for the monitoring of the refinery operations performance, and in the evaluation of the refinery profitability for the development of strategies for improvement.
- Performs the updates of the Refinery LP Model to maintain an accurate simulation of the refinery operations, following industry best practices. Runs the LP model and validate outputs ensuring that an optimum solution is attained, meeting required product volumes and qualities.
- Conduct LP model audits and propose areas for improvement. The LP SME shall monitor LP performance and prepare associated KPIs.
- Support/ update the stock balance sheets for refinery process units, in accordance with applicable quality procedures.
- Supports T&I shutdown core team in the determination of economic impact for planned shutdowns. Provides guidance in the selection of the optimum shutdown strategy to reduce total cost of the activity.
- Must have a vast experience on LP modelling and implementation of LP models using AspenTech PIMS tool.
- Shall be an expert LP user capable of troubleshooting and resolving any potential issue encountered in the use and modelling of the refinery LP model.
- Must have an extensive experience in the use of Aspen PIMS AO and PIMS DR. Also, it would be desirable to have some experience in PIMS Unified. Experience in MultiPlan model is desirable.
- Must also have a proven track record in performance monitoring and optimisation of refinery process units.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- At least a BSc level degree in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent, from a recognized University.
- At least fifteen (15) years of relevant experience, predominantly in refinery planning and economics, LP models development and implementation of new models. Experience in process engineering technical support or refinery operations may also be an advantage.
- A sound understanding of the refinery process units and their interactions, and practical knowledge of process unit yields, key stream qualities and refinery product specifications.
- Expert in LP PIMS modelling and implementation.
- Experience in the use of H-CAMS crude assay manager software is an added advantage.
- Excellent written and spoken English, good communication and mentoring skills, and the ability to influence and gain support from various technical teams within the refinery.
- A highly developed critical thinker, with excellent analytical problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Self-motivated, creative and able to exercise initiative.
- Able to organize, plan and execute work effectively, independently and within teams.
- Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Able to mentor, coach and inspire younger, less experienced engineers.
- Skilled in using MS Office software e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
