• Our banking sector client is looking for an experienced Head of Data Platforms and Data Operations.
• Our client has recently upgraded its Data and Analytics platforms and capabilities to ensure data can be monetised throughout the organization; As Head of Data Platforms and Operations, you'll need to be Data Savvy with a mix of job-specific and more general management skills to manage data engineers, operations, and further development of the bank’s core data platforms. 
• Your principal responsibilities are with the organisation's data platforms' development, stability, and functionality, as well as spearheading data engineering initiatives, planning, and delivery. 
• This includes the implementation of state-of-the-art data technologies and services and the ongoing optimization of our data platforms and database systems, as well as overseeing the development of conceptual and logical data models for the banks Data and Analytics infrastructures. 
• You will establish controls and procedures for change management and security, as well as collaborate with the organisation to identify future requirements and needs. 
• It will also be your responsibility to ensure that the platform and its supporting technologies and tools are continuously upgraded and redesigned and work closely with our IT department, Enterprise Risk and Information security teams to ensure compliance and standards that keep our data safe and privacy compliant in all environments. 
• You will be leading the Data Foundation initiatives and ensuring the high availability of data to support business objectives and critical processes.
• You are highly passionate about technical (big) data management and analytics platforms with hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of data (base) management technologies. You’re experienced in leading data and data ops engineers as well as setting up data platforms, database designs, monitoring, and identifying areas for improvement in our data platforms.

Key Role Responsibilities:

Core:

• Collect, implement and standardize the metadata of large-scale distributed systems, database systems, and complex business systems; utilize the collected metadata to drive the building, management, and services of metadata assets.
• Configuration and continuous optimization of Technical Environments (Performance Monitoring, Capacity Planning, Server Resource Allocation and Optimization).

Managing Databases:

• Design of new/upgrades of database schemas.
• Planning database capacity and resources required (in collaboration with DBAs).
• Identifying required technologies and tools to effectively manage databases.
• Identifying areas for improvement in current systems.
• Auditing databases regularly to maintain quality.
• Drive and embed operational excellence in data dissemination through predictable delivery and change management of data (such as quality, standardization and semantics) and data workloads (such as data pipelines, platforms and products).
• Implement intelligent monitoring, tech support, risk assessment, and compliance management and usage of the Data and Analytics Platforms and provide management with key operations reports.
• Improving the communication, integration, automation, observability, and operations of data flows between data engineers and data consumers to drive operational excellence in data delivery in support of the data management solutions.

Design and Technology Selection:

• Technology selection and review related to the various Data and Analytical platforms.
• Design of System and Platform Integration patterns, aligned to the banking IT architecture and infrastructure.
• Designing of Data and Analytics Platform extensions (On-premises and Hybrid-cloud based).
• Ensuring Data Security is at the highest standard.
• Complying with the bank’s data privacy policies, procedures, and standards.

Engineering:

• Leading team members to reach project milestones and deadlines.
• Setup of new Engineering Tools for the Data and Analytics Platforms 
• Defining Engineering and testing standards.
• Reviewing Engineering quality.
• Guiding team members on standards.
• Increase reusability of data engineering work product through automation
• Provide reliable data delivery meeting service levels.

Skills and Qualifications:

1. The following minimum skills and qualifications apply to the role:
2. Education, Experience or Minimum Qualifications: 
3. Computer Science related degree (preferably a master’s degree in computer science)
4. Minimum of 12 years experience in: 
5. Information management and data processing on multiple platforms

Programming languages, specifically a minimum of hands-on programming in two of the following four groups:

- SAS

- SQL

- Python/R

- Java/C# 

• Data Modelling (Logical and Physical, including DDL)
• Financial Services Domain
• Machine learning, predictive modelling and natural language processing
• Data mining (e.g., scrapping) tools 
• ETL development experience; specifically, transformation techniques.
• Minimum of 7 years experience in:
• Data Operations and Scheduling

Core technologies: 

- SAS (EG and DI)

- Microsoft SSAS/RS or equivalent

- Operating system setup and monitoring: Windows/Linux

- Master Data Management, Data Quality Tools and Data Catalogues/Dictionaries or equivalent

DBMS software, SQL Server, unstructured data, and real-time streaming solutions

Cloud-based data technologies (preferably Azure) and implementation patterns/architectures
