Strategy:
- The Head of Analytics plays a leading strategic role and provides leadership to a team of experts in data reporting, data analytics, and data scientist where he leads the data analytics departments in strategy and roadmap development concerning the collection, manipulation, and analysis of data for various business functions/departments such as marketing, sales, operations, among others.
- The Head of Analytics also endeavours to create new data-driven approaches to generate business insights through data analytics, information visualization, and addressing unanswered business issues proactively.
Analytics:
- The Head of Analytics is responsible for the development and embedding of analytical tools, algorithms, and methods where possible with a view of driving and enhancing data systems and streamlining business processes.
- In this capacity, the Head of Analytics strives to improve the quality of analytics solutions consistently and possesses many practical and technical skills, from project management and team leadership to machine learning, data analytics, and software engineering.
- He leads the analytics teams and works closely with the data warehousing team in the creation of high-quality analyses for all functions of the business and in the definition of metrics that track the business’s performance on different fronts.
- The Head of Analytics also needs to have high attention to details to validate, interpret, and create reports and presentations for senior data analytics management, departmental heads / management, and relevant stakeholders.
Collaboration:
The role of the Head of Analytics is highly collaborative and, as such, the Head of Analytics facilitates an Agile way of working and cross-functional team collaboration.
The Head of Analytics works closely with senior data analytics management in establishing departmental goals and strategies.
He coaches junior data analysts and works closely with the data warehouse personnel in defining the data collection needs of the business for future analytical opportunities and to guarantee that there is high data quality and reliability of the data used across the business for decision-making. The Head of Analytics further collaborates with numerous departments across the business, aiding and coaching them in the proper use of data, hence, ensuring the delivery of desired operational results.
Education level:
- The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of working experience as data professional in various roles, especially as a head of a data analytics or data warehousing department, preferably working in a fast-paced and complex business setting. The candidate must have a proven and successful experience in the execution of data analytics initiatives within the Banking industry, leading to the development of useful insights and the improvement of a business’s performance and driving top-line growth, and therefore must have a good understanding of banking, financial processes, and products.
- The successful candidate will also demonstrate success leading and developing a team of data analysts and data scientists as well as vast experience working with a wide range of data to predict financial metrics for a business. A suitable candidate will additionally have demonstrated experience building and leading quantitative analyses as well as experience building response and risk models. As a bonus, the candidate will have gathered experience working with large data sets and advanced analytics systems such as SAS Vija and excellent knowledge of various data management and analytics languages such as SQL, R and Business intelligence tools (e.g. PowerBI, SAS)
- Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form are a must-have for the Head of Analytics. The Head of Analytics will be meant to interact with numerous departments’ personnel and departmental heads/management aiding them in the proper application of data, leading to functional improvement. As a departmental leader, the clarity of his communications down the line will be a major contributing factor to the performance and effectiveness of the junior data analytics personnel.
