UNDP is seeking the support of a Project(s) Coordinator to support the GBF EAS Project. The global project supports developing, middle-income, and small island nations in their commitments to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), including early action on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework (GBF), National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and National Reporting. Working in collaboration with UN Environment (UNEP), the CBD Secretariat, and the GEF Secretariat, this project provides technical and financial support to GEF-eligible Parties to CBD. Depending on the policy cycle, the type of technical support and the amount of financial support delivered to Parties may vary.
CBD Parties are currently being mobilized to take early action on the GBF by focusing on four components: national biodiversity planning and alignment, policy frameworks, monitoring and reporting frameworks, and biodiversity finance. These components, among others that may emerge, are aimed at ensuring that CBD Parties have the technical and financial support they require to work towards a robust, fully resourced, NBSAP, including a strong monitoring system, that is fully aligned with the GBF.
Duties And Responsibilities
Responsibilities include supporting UNDP Programme Officer for Sustainable Growth, Energy, Environment and Gender to:
Project coordination and implementation
Coordinate implementation of the project components.
Liaise with national partners upon request, including one-on-one calls and technical support
Define, gather, organize, and analyze key project data
Support communication with key project partners
Gather and analyze national data and use it to support the development of project progress reports, donor reports, trainings, and presentations
Track national progress to achieve project components
Support the implementation of additional ongoing or emerging projects as assigned
Plan and deliver/ coordinate the delivery of the national inception workshop and facilitate national consultations and meetings
Technical services
Develop Terms of Reference for National and International Experts to provide specific technical support.
Develop technical guidance documents, tools, and trainings biodiversity and policy, including – but not limited to – NBSAP target alignment, policy review, biodiversity finance, gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment, stakeholder engagement,
Develop reports and policy recommendations related to the targets in the emerging post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework
Support the development of automated process to develop customized tools
Support the implementation of additional ongoing or emerging projects as assigned
Support literature reviews, knowledge management, compilation of information, and gathering of data on topics pertinent to the project, such as, but not limited to biodiversity and ecosystem in national, local and international contexts, sustainable development, Indigenous people and local communities; social entrepreneurship; engagement in global policy processes.
Capacity building
Develop capacity building material, such as webinars, online courses, identifying relevant topics, dates and speakers for webinars and online courses
Support user management of the Learning for Nature platform and NBSAP Forum in multiple languages through moderation and promotion
Promote access and use of spatial data, notably via the platform UN Biodiversity Lab
Support the Learning for Nature platform to ensure the delivery of the technical components of the program through the platform
Ensure an active and smooth utilization of the NBSAP Forum ( http://nbsapforum.net ) by GEF-eligible Parties, including sharing best practices and resources, the broad circulation of job offers and learning opportunities and dynamic discussions.
Administrate the virtual technical program, including a calendar of activity, which will include webinars, release of technical guidance, peer-exchange, massive open online courses, and self-paced online courses, among other opportunities.
Support identifying the most suitable date, time, language, and communication channel
Support the preparation of capacity building engagements at UNDP-participating events, such as CBD Conferences of Parties, Open-Ended Working Groups, SBSTTAs; virtual events such as the UN Nature for Life Hub, and global conferences, among other opportunities.
Communication
Prepare and share content for NBSAP Forum, including events, publications, job offers and learning opportunities and share all recording of webinars and training sessions organized by UNDP and CBD on the NBSAP Forum
Support the drafting of press releases, talking points, PowerPoint presentation, social media communications, blogs and video messages related to the capacity building materials, text and photos, photo essays for NBSAP Forum website
Support the translation of communication materials into Spanish as needed
Develop and document best practices and lessons learned from across the UNDP portfolio, including on policy review and policy alignment
Develop case studies to showcase successful policy alignment examples between national targets and the post-2020 global biodiversity framework targets
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization

The incumbent will be reporting to UNDP National Programme Officer at UNDP Bahrain CO.

Education
Required Skills and Experience
Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent in Social Science, Social Development, Programme Management, Education is required or;
A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree
Experience
Minimum Up to 2 years (with master’s degree) or 2 years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience at the national and/or international level project management, technical assistance/ development assistance ,in a higher education institution or related works.
Desired Skills
Demonstrated experience and good understanding and working experience with thematic areas related to sustainable development and the SDGs is highly desired.
Prior experience with the United Nations, in particular UNDP, is desirable.
Previous experience in project management, technical assistance/development assistance or related work and experience in a higher education institution.
