Key Responsibilities:
- The Master has overriding authority to take required action considered necessary for the safety and security of the crew, the vessel, or for the protection of the environment.
- Periodically reviewing the safety management system and reporting its deficiencies to shore-based management according to Masters Review Procedure.
- Ensure statutory certification is maintained valid.
- Motivate the vessel crew to be familiar with requirements of, and comply with, the safety management system.
- Act as tug manager and coordinate the attendance of crew as required for operations, the provision of stores, and ensuring readiness for operations.
- Comply with SVITZER health, safety, environment and security management systems and procedures including cyber security.
- Be familiar with relevant OH&S, environment, and security regulations associated with tug operations and report as appropriate.
- Manage tug crew discipline, addressing issues and escalating to management where required.
- Supervise and assist with tug maintenance as necessary.
- Prepare operational reports where required.
- Participate in safety training, including training of other crew members.
- Conduct induction training of visitors, employees, and other persons authorized to access the vessel.

Able Seaman Engine
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Responsible to the Port Engineer or Chief Engineer for the safe and efficient operation of all machinery and associated equipment on board Company vessels.
- Ensure all work carried out in the engine room and on-board Company vessels is done safely and professionally in compliance with safe-working practices.
- Always ensure compliance and adherence with Company PPE policy.
- Follow reporting procedures as required by the Port Engineer.
- Ensure all stand-by equipment is maintained and in a high state of readiness.
- Maintain the engine room logbook legibly, accurately, and up to date.
- Identify potential hazards and failures associated with machinery and advise Tugmaster/Helmsman and Chief Engineer as applicable.
