Mechanical Engineer
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; relevant postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of practical design experience in mechanical design of water infrastructure, pump stations, and pressurized networks.
- Proven experience with pump selection and hydraulic design for potable water, fire-fighting, and wastewater/TSE systems.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulic/network modeling software such as WaterGEMS.
- Required experience in surge/transient analysis for pressurized systems using industry-standard tools (e.g., Bentley HAMMER) and interpreting results for mitigation recommendations.
- Strong knowledge of design standards and codes.
- Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D) with familiarity in BIM workflows preferred.
- Solid technical writing skills and experience producing design reports and specifications.
- Good project management skills including time management, prioritization, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with clients, authorities, and multidisciplinary teams.
Design Engineer - Wet Utilities
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or contribute to the full design lifecycle for wet utilities: concept, feasibility, detailed design, construction documentation, and handover.
- Develop hydraulic models for gravity and pressurized networks using WaterGEMS and SewerGEMS (or equivalent), including calibration, validation, and scenario analysis.
- Design foul sewer networks: pipe sizing, gradients, manholes, junctions, pumping stations, and connection strategies per local standards and good practice.
- Design stormwater drainage systems: open drains, closed conduits, culverts, detention/retention solutions, SuDS measures, and flood-routing analysis.
- Design potable water distribution systems: network layout, pipe sizing, service connections, pressure management, and water quality considerations.
- Design fire-fighting water networks: hydrant layouts, flow and pressure checks, booster pumps, and compliance with local fire codes and insurance requirements.
- Design TSE (treated sewage effluent) reuse/irrigation distribution systems: pipework, storage, quality control, and risk mitigation.
- Produce detailed drawings, specifications, schedules, bill of quantities, and construction tender documents using CAD and/or BIM tools.
